If you really want to get to know your granddaughters, take them on a shopping spree for their birthdays.
I took my 10 and 8 year old granddaughters out shopping for their birthdays, which are 5 days apart. After we bought out everything from Target, we all went to lunch.
I have no clue what to get them at this age or what they are in to. I figured it would be better for them to pick out things for themselves. At first they were shy, but after the first items went in the basket, it was easier for them to just toss what they wanted in the cart.
I am sure I spent more taking them out, but I had fun having them to myself. It was an interesting learning experience for sure.
