Planning a Picnic

Nothing says make the world go away like a romantic outdoors picnic. Take no cell phones. Have real conversations. Maybe bring a sketch pad.

Stake out the perfect location.

Now, start with the container - the "basket." The ideal one has all the serving ware you need.

Food themes

Charcuterie - variety of cheeses and sliced cured meats, nuts, fruits

Ploughman Platter - chunks of bread, ham, mustards, walnuts, gherkins, cheeses, hard boiled eggs halved, salami

Sandwiches - consider something fun like turkey slices, extremely thin granny smith apple slices, swiss cheese, fig jam. Get a spring greens mix of salad with a balsamic vinaigrette.

Cheese and fruit platter - fresh summer watermelon, slices of pineapple, cherries, variety of cheeses, some nuts.

Don't forget dessert - brownies travel well, as do cookies.

Picnics can happen on the floor of the living room in front of the tv with Sake and Chinese takeout, Godzilla movies.

Picnics can be under a shade tree, a park, a lakeside.

Think outside the box and have a blast!
