Popular Beauty Trends That Translate as Trashy

Beauty trends come and go. Remember the 80s overly teased hair? How about the Twiggy bobs of the 60s, or maybe the heroine chic of the 90s?

Fake nails
Acrylic nails are not only a huge maintenance expense, but appear to be very popular among those who work hourly wage jobs or DIY YouTube channels. There's nothing attractive to men to see claws pruned and decorated and waving in the air like teppanyaki knives. They are unsettling, and not to mention, impractical for jobs that involve using cell phones and keyboards.

Fake eyelashes/extensions
We probably have to thank the Kardashian Clan for this eyelash obsession. The sad thing is, they don't frame the eyes, they detract from them. If you ever watched someone blink with these spider legs hanging out, you probably expected a winged creature to take off in flight.

Overdone eyebrows
It amazes me that there are actual shops in strip malls devoted to eyebrow maintenance. When did this happen? Women reworking their eyebrows into drawn on distractions. It is nearly impossible to look at these overly groomed brows and not be reminded of that trend where women shave off their brows and draw them back on.

facial piercings
Knock, Knock. Who's there? Yeah, the doorknocker, the bull ring, the eyebrow apostrophe. These are distractions that make it impossible not to look at the shiny metal, rather like staring at someone's flaming pimple. The face, the person, they fade away and all there is left to recall is, "why the hell do people do that?"

heavy black eyeliner
Yes, heavy black eyeliner makes everyone look old, makes eyes look beady, and generally puts off like window shutters to the peepers. It's harsh. It's desperate. And, it's almost always put on far from the lashline.

botox
This one especially drives me crazy. Why would an actress, who must make expressions, choose paralysis? Well, fear of wrinkles. You can hear the overly botox'd cry and scream and get angry, but they cannot express it visually. I am 5 years into bilateral Bell's palsy facial paralysis and I will never understand why a person would voluntarily take on paralysis. It is the most devastating condition. And, those who continue to botox their faces over long periods of time end up with permanently atrophied facial muscles. If you don't move the muscle, it loses bulk. Now, you have a face that is withered and unable to express.

fillers
Fillers are not something that can be removed. It spreads. It moves. And, because of the contents, it sucks in water in the face and causes the pillow effect. The butt-looking lips and bizarre cheeks take on terrifying proportions that are not only unnatural, but eventually shift and end up in all the wrong places

There are lots of really miserable beauty trends that continue to cause women to undergo surgeries, bleaching, filling, paralyzing, weaving, resurfacing, and more. Then, there's the body morphing butt lifts, fat suctioning, silicone filling trends that lead further and further down a path of bankruptcy of bank accounts and self-esteem.
