Summer Foods of the 1970s

Nostalgic. Decadent. Familiar. Comforting. Just some of the words to describe 1970s foods of childhood summers. Let's hit some of the deja vu buttons for y'all -

Kids were drinking from garden hoses, chasing down the ice cream man, getting treats at the public pool's snack shop, and generally cruising their friends' houses for the best mom-made meal to stay and dine.

Convenience became big from otter pops and yoohoos you could take and run or easy to fix yourself items like frozen waffles and bologna sandwiches. Processed foods were hitting tables like mad as women went to work and commercials showed us that our cereals didn't need spoons full of sugar added, the manufacturers were sweetening them up for us.

A lot of health issues began in the 70s and I believe a big part of that is grocery stores filled with processed foods, fast food restaurants popping up, and less made from scratch meals at home. It used to be, you came home for lunch or supper and it was what mom made. Now, food could be had quickly and easily anywhere - no mom needed.
