You don't need to completely replace your wardrobe each season, but you might add a few pieces to make it feel new. There's a certain look this time of year that is very popular, the LL Bean, outdoorsy, autumn, hiker type look. Let's find a few pieces to help you achieve that vibe -
Fishing vests
Hiking boots
Cargo pants
Sweater Vests
Scarves
Sweaters
Hoodies
🍁🍁🍁
I will give male and female examples of each -
First, let's look at fishing vests. Now, you don't need to do the functional ones with dozens of pockets, but the effect should be similar - pockets on the vest. This truly gives an outdoorsy feel and also has some real function with pockets to carry keys and cell phone.
Sure, hiking boots are functional, whether you're kicking around piles of leaves or hitting muddy paths in the woods, but let's look for the function without the utilitarian look. The men's boots remind us of lumberjacks of old. The women's boots look like they would team great with some thick scrunchy socks.
Next on our list of additions to update is cargo pants. These are always a go-to, but fall is the perfect time to shake them out and wear them. The pockets scream hiker/outdoorsperson.
Sweater vests scream "preppy" and autumn. If you have solid tees or plaid shirts in your dresser, consider adding a sweater vest, the perfect item to accessorize the boring and also to stay warm without having to remove it like a jacket. Men's cable knit vests and sweater vests with stripes along the openings, are very collegiate, but a plain smooth wool sweater vest is classic. For women, argyle is a classic college wear, but a striped or plain sweater vest doesn't distract or classify you, just makes you look finished.
Scarves are an often overlooked element in a fall wardrobe. Sure, they function great when weather is icy in wintertime, but the addition to your wardrobe can look very outdoorsy. Men don't need to wind them around their necks like Josh Gates. Just let it hang down the front of the jacket or sweater you're wearing.
Of course, it wouldn't be autumn without a sweater. This season, consider something fresh and new, a color from the autumn forest, whether it's a mushroom cream fisherman's sweater or an olive green, a chocolate brown, or a rusty orange cardigan you can remove when it's hot indoorsi or wear atop of a summer sundress to autumn'ize it. (Imagine Sally in "Practical Magic")
Lastly, let's dive into everyone's standard for autumn - hoodies. This time, For men, a classic lumberjack flannel plaid hoodie beats the teenaged graphic design hoodie. For women, go plaid, but go pullover instead of zip front. It's lightweight and you can pull the hood up if it rains, or prop it around some curls and look cozy.
Colors

In other words, if the forest is wearing these colors, you should too!
As fall often brings out the ivy league colleg vibe, some accessories that might pair well would be pocketwatches, leather band wristwatches, backpacks, and rigid hairbands.
Leather, wool, flannel, cotton, knit, suede....
Happy Autumn'ing!
