Art and Photography: Igniting Other Creative Outlets and Emotional Equilibrium

As a writer and an artist, I find there is a true connection between my desire to sketch, oil paint, and photograph the world and then create screenplays that give vibrant visuals and nuances. There is the world you see, the world you write, and the world acted out. Something about these visual outlets enhances my writing skill. To me, art is a channeled process. It uses the mind in a way that tells a story without words.
If you are a creative, you may find that as an artist, writing helps and as a writer, art helps. Play with it!

These sketches below fed my writing. I have to take a break from the screen and hold some watercolor pastels. I sketch it out, wet a brush, blend it, maybe use markers if I need emphasis, maybe use a wet brush and a paper towel to remove colors.

You don't need extensive camera equipment. Honestly, the photos I took below were cell phone shots and they please me. I am not a professional photographer. I do love especially getting macro up-close shots.

Oil painting is my first love because my mother was an oil painting teacher. As a kid, I sat in the corner of our art room watching the students bring scenes to life. The scent of turpentine, the easy blendability, the soft texture... very special. I can see that I actually have my own style without intending it. It's how I see this amazing world. It also means that, as a writer, I carry that same flavor.

Take a break. Look around. Capture the beauty visually. Then, go back to the written page and bring it to life in literature, lyrics, journal, or script.
